Peggy in the Rothko Room

Oil on mdf, 46,5 x 70 cm, 18,3 x 27,6 in

Peggy in the Rothko Room is based on a tourist snapshot from the Guggenheim Museum in Venice. Peggy Guggenheim was the central patron for Abstract Expressionism both in the USA and in Europe. Her bat sunglasses are preserved like Lenin and presented on a velvet cushion. The color of the display cabinet are similar to the Mark Rothko paintings in The Tate Gallery’s permanent exhibition.
